  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Buns:
    • Punch down the dough and divide it into 8-10 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten each ball slightly.
  5. Second Rise:
    • Cover the buns with a damp cloth and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  6. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Bake the Buns:
    • If desired, brush the tops of the buns with a little water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
    • Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the buns are golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the buns to cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your freshly baked burger buns!
